Poster 25 - 2002
by Melanie Vowles

website: http://www.sugardipped.com

About the poster:

"I entered the contest last year with a similar concept- and decided to make another "go" for the 25th anniversary. This time I decided to make use of my computer graphic skills, illustration skills, and love of frogs. First I drew the jester frogs by hand, scanned them into the computer and colored them within Photoshop. For the Text and the Haight street sign, I drew that by hand (well, mouse) in Illustrator and just combined all the different parts into a single printable 17 x 22 Quark Document. It was a lot of fun to create and I look forward to entering the contest again next year."

. About the artist Melanie Vowles:
Melanie is a native of the Golden State, having ventured only twice from her Northern California—Bay Area roots. Residing briefly in the Eastern Sierra’s Carson Valley and on the sunny Central California coast, she currently makes her home in San Francisco.

Melanie’s artistic bent can be traced to her parents. Talented artists in their own right, they nurtured her passion and encouraged her pursuit of a career for which she was uniquely suited and clearly born to. Family mentoring aside, she continued to hone her innate gifts and fashion her own individual style. Although classic professional instruction and development enriched her skills—she is largely self-taught in the variety of mediums she so adroitly undertakes.

Her talents have not gone unrecognized. A recent winner of the 25th Annual Haight Ashbury Street Fair Poster competition, her prize-winning creation was displayed for several weeks promoting the fair, and later sold as limited edition prints and t-shirts. Melanie has also been successful in attracting the attention of private industry—providing illustration and web-design services for select corporate clients. Accomplished in the written arts as well, Melanie is also a commissioned calligrapher. And, in support of community charity efforts, she has graciously donated much of her artwork for silent auction.

Multi-faceted artist and Renaissance woman extraordinaire, Melanie’s artistry cannot be categorized. Her talents transcend genre and medium and her colorfully expressive work is as refreshing and unique as her constant commitment to excellence. We know you will delight in her enchanting work.
